When makeup became harder to apply, Storm Menzies realised the problem wasn’t her, it was that the beauty industry on a whole, had overlooked people living with a disability.
Living with cerebral palsy, Storm had always adapted her beauty routine. But when she injured her dominant hand, even the smallest tasks such as holding a mascara wand, lining her eyes, felt impossible. So, she went searching for beauty products that were made for people experiencing loss of hand function - but there wasn't any.
So Storm went on a mission to create what didn't exist.
Designed for Access, Not Assumption
And thus, ByStorm was born. Storm set out with one clear goal: to make beauty more accessible. She wanted to create a product that would enable people to use mainstream make up products - a tool that would meet people where they are.
Working closely with occupational therapists, product designers, and members of the disability community, she developed Betty and Margie: accessible beauty tools created specifically for people with limited grip, tremors, hand pain, fatigue, or limb difference.
These are not generic beauty tools with a workaround. Not only are they purpose-built to provide more control, more ease, and more dignity in daily routines but they also look cute too! A tool that you would be happy to have sitting on your counter amongst your beauty products.
Meet Betty and Margie
Named after two female pioneers of disability in Australia - Elizabeth Hastings and Dr. Margaret Cooper, these accessible makeup tools are now available on BOOIE in the iconic BOOIE blue colours.
- Betty: A rounded, ball-like handle that fits into the palm. Ideal for anyone who can curl their fingers or form a partial grip. Its shape helps distribute pressure through the whole hand, making wand application steadier and less tiring.
- Margie: A flat, paddle-like form designed for open-hand use. No grip required, just rest your hand on top and guide using broad pressure or subtle movements from the arm or wrist.
Both are made from soft, grippy silicone and can be washed, reused, and fitted with most mascara, brow, or gloss wands. No learning curve. No fuss. Just tools that fit your life.
